God bless actors. They make
us laugh and crythey make us cheer and boo. They terrify us and inspire
us. But most of all they tell us who we are.
For many years, I have taught
acting classes in Los Angeles and watched actors confront their demons. I help
actors who are long on dreams and short on experience confront the terror of self-discovery
and wrestle with the refinement of the craft they need for film and television
acting. In addition, I work with seasoned professional actors, some of whom are
between movie or television roles and just want to be in an acting class to keep
skills sharp. Some are veteran actors eager to move beyond the smaller parts they
have been doing. They hope to find an acting class that will help them start booking
more substantial roles in movies and television. On
the other hand, some professional actors, for one reason or another, have lost
their love for the craft of acting and desperately long to rekindle the passion
that once infused their work.
After all this time, I am
still deeply touched by the courage of all actors who plunge into this battle
to free the creative spirit. I am inspired and renewed by those who are, as Rollo
May puts it, willing to encounter the world-waiting-to-be.
